Student Payment and Penalties Timeline
The diagram below demonstrates a timeline for students to follow. It highlights the various stages of our debt management process throughout each term. It also highlights the penalties that will be applied to the student’s account and the action taken by the University to recover the monies owed.

Please note :
- Persistent refusal to pay fees, charges and penalties by the due dates, or any deferred date agreed in writing by the Student Fees Team, will be regarded as a major disciplinary offence and disciplinary action may result.
- Students in debt to the University may be refused future University accommodation and may also have University bursaries, maintenance and scholarships withheld (or such funds may be set by the University against the outstanding debt).
- Students in debt to the University in respect of their accommodation will be subject to the provisions and penalties stated in the accommodation contract.
- Students whose payments to the University are in arrears by more than one term may not be permitted to continue on their programme(s) unless a payment extension has been granted in writing by the Student Fees Team.
- Upon receipt of formal notice from the Director of Academic Services and the Director of Finance, a student in debt to the University can be required to withdraw from all programmes immediately.
- Where there are arrears at the end of the University’s academic year, a student’s existing registration will be deemed cancelled unless an extension in writing has been granted by the Head of Student Finance Operations, Finance Services.
- No student in debt is permitted to register for a subsequent academic session.
- Students whose accounts are not fully paid by the due dates will be subject to debt recovery procedures which includes referral to our external debt recovery agents or the Courts for recovery.
- Under Ordinance 2.7, no student is eligible for the award of a degree or other qualification by the University unless all fees for tuition, maintenance and any other sums, including fines owing to the University, have been paid. The University will also refuse student debtors access to degree ceremonies.
