These notes are intended to assist the completion of laboratory technician staff TAS forms. This table should allocate particular activities on a basis that is consistent across the campus and which meets TRAC guidelines.
There are 2 tables:
The TAS form headings are slightly different from the normal Academic TAS form, being slightly simplified in some areas. The major difference lies in Research. Time spent on externally funded research is split into two to analyse both directly charged and allocated time. It is possible for a single Technician to do both concurrently.

These notes are intended to assist support staff (other than technicians) in deciding into which category they should allocate particular activities on a basis that is consistent across the campus and which meets TRAC guidelines.
It is unlikely that any time will be allocated as direct ie to Teaching (publicly funded or non-publicly funded), or to Research (internally or externally funded), or indeed to Other (the first 7 headings on the Time Allocation Schedule).
These further notes cannot be exhaustive but cover some examples of campus activities and their allocation:-

These notes are intended to assist technician staff in deciding into which category they should allocate particular activities on a basis that is consistent across the campus and which meets TRAC guidelines. Once the nature of the activity has been classified (using this table), the funding source will determine whether the teaching is publicly funded or non-publicly funded, and whether the research activity is internally or externally funded, as required on the Time Allocation Schedule.
