The path alongside the ponds makes an attractive detour but the main route continues straight ahead following the Taddiforde through the Taddiforde Valley. This planting was also carried out by University staff and provides the setting for an interesting variety of ornamental trees and shrubs.
To the left of the path can be found examples of the bottlebrush shrub (Callistemon) and the startling blue Hydrangea Hortensias, whilst on the right is a row of Wingnut trees (Pterocarya stenoptera) which were introduced into Europe from China in 1860, and also a solitary Maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba) which was introduced into England from eastern China in 1758. It is regarded as a sacred tree in the east and is commonly planted near Buddhist temples. There is also an assortment of Eucalyptus trees.
