The path leads to the first of the man-made lakes

The path leads to the first of the man-made lakes at the foot of Higher Hoopern Valley. This series of lakes was constructed by University staff in 1971 along the course of an existing branch of the Taddiforde Brook.

The lakes have been stocked with a variety of fish including rudd, golden orfe, koi and goldfish. Canada geese and mallards are foremost amongst the species of waterfowl to have found a home here and a feeding heron is not uncommon. The far banks are planted with Dogwood, Hazel and Alder.
