Introduction

What?

The aim of this package is to give very basic information and advice about disability issues, with references to further information, should you need or want any. More detailed information is available in the Access to Learning Manual.

Why?

Attitudes about disabilities have completely changed over the last two decades. The University actively encourages students and staff with disabilities to come to Exeter, and we are promising them a supportive and welcoming environment. We need to be able to keep our promise!

Apart from ethical considerations, we need to ensure that we are working within the recent legislation - something we'll look at in this package.

How?

We've constructed the package in a series of short screens of information and advice interspersed with quizzes. We have assumed no prior knowledge or experience of disability issues. We recommend that you work through the pages sequentially, using the menu on the left hand side of the screen. But you may prefer to dip in to the sections in your own order - that's fine, but please try to ensure that you cover the whole programme. Of course, you may also use the package as a resource pack for future reference.

Let's begin.
