June 2010Bikes - The good news is that this month we have had no reports of any bikes being stolen from campus. Anti Social Behaviour - The bad news is there has been a rise in anti-social behaviour which has upset a lot of people. This has been caused by a minority of students whose actions have been both thoughtless and selfish. Thefts - We have only had a few thefts this month and the figure could of been even lower. Please remember that an open door is an invitation to any opportunist thief and if you leave your property unattended there is always a chance that it won't be there on your return.
May 2010Anti Social Behaviour - Sadly we have seen a large rise in complaints this month both on campus and in the surrounding area. As you start to celebrate the end of exams, term or even University life, we ask you to respect your neighbours and the community you live in. Bikes - We have had a couple of bikes taken this month but we have also managed to catch two suspected bike thieves because the owners of the bikes had used really good locks. Thefts - Unfortunately this month we have been called to a lot of walk through thefts, which could of been avoided. We keep saying it - please keep your belongings with you or make sure they are securely locked away.
April 2010Bikes - No bikes were reported stolen this month. Two known criminals were caught as they were tampering with bikes, luckily the owners of the bikes had locked them otherwise they would have been stolen. Anti-Social behaviour - We have had no reports of any anti social behaviour this month. As the exam period begins please respect those in your community who are studying and revising over the next few weeks. Thefts - We have had 1 reported theft this month which could easily have been avoided so please remember it only takes a thief seconds to steal your property if left unattended. Assaults - Unfortunately no matter how safe a city is there is always the chance of being attacked. Exeter is no exception so please stay safe by being aware of your surroundings and if you think somebody is following you look for help.
February 2010Bikes - Once again we have had no reports of any bike thefts, keep using those locks and stop thieves from stealing your property. Anti-Social behaviour - We are still receiving a high number of incidents some of which are involving people tampering with fire fighting equipment. This is LIFE SAVING equipment and could result in criminal proceedings being brought against those involved. Thefts - Nearly all the reported cases this month are from people who have left there windows or doors open while they are out of there rooms. If you want to keep your belongings safe and not become a target then keep your rooms secure.

Thefts - The number of thefts this month is also low but we would like it to be even lower so remember to lock your valuables away out of sight when leaving your room and keep you belongings with you when you are out and about. Mobile phones, laptops and handbags that are left unattended are easy targets for thieves to steal. Anti social behaviour - Unfortunately the number of complaints and reports of anti- social behaviour has risen this month. If you are having problems with your neighbour then inform your resident tutor, mentor or estate patrol who are all there to help.
December 2009Bikes - We have had a couple of bikes taken this month, so please remember if you have a bike keep it secured at all times by using a heavy duty D lock. Thefts - We have only had one reported theft this month and that was again because the item of property had been left unattended. When leaving your belongings, no matter what it is make sure it is safely locked away. Anti social behaviour - The season of goodwill brought very few reports of any anti-social behaviour this month. So as we begin the New Year we hope that peace and goodwill can bring long lasting harmony to all.
November 2009Thefts - Residential properties that are not being secured properly are still being targeted by thieves. Please remember to put valuables out of sight when leaving your room and make sure windows and doors are secured properly even if you are just popping out for a minute. Don't make it easy for others to take your property and help keep crime off our campus. Bikes - We have only had 1 report of a bike being stolen. Christmas is approaching and leaving your bike unlocked could be an early present for a thief. Anti-social behaviour - We are still getting complaints from neighbours about noise and drunken behaviour. Alcohol is not an excuse for bad behaviour and you will still be held responsible for your actions.
October 2009Thefts - The thefts that have taken place this month have been mainly carried out by opportunist thieves. These are people who will walk through a building and take belongings that have been left unattended, or look for windows that have been left open or doors that have not been locked as they walk through residential areas. Bikes - We have only had 3 reports of bikes being stolen this month, so please continue to use a good heavy duty D lock and secure it to something solid. Anti social behaviour - Some of the complaints we have received this month have been about bins being tipped over, noise from parties, damage to peoples property, damage to fire fighting equipment and people screaming and shouting as they come home from their night out. Please remember your actions reflect on your University, your fellow students and yourself. Assaults can happen to anybody, anywhere and at anytime. So don't make it easy for an attacker, be aware of your surroundings and remember some very simple rules on your night out.

So please remember to always lock your bike with a good heavy D lock in a secure area. Personal property - we have had a couple of reports of items going missing from rooms that have been left open. August 2009Bikes - No reports of bikes being stolen. Anti-social behaviour - No reports. Thefts - One report due to the owner leaving his property unattended. Please keep your belongings with you at all times and keep your campus crime free.
July 2009This month we have had very few reports of crimes on campus. Bikes - No reports of bikes being stolen. Thefts - Only a couple of reports and unfortunately this was mainly because the items had been left unattended or doors had been left unlocked. Anti-social behaviour - No reports. Please stay vigilant and help us keep your campus crime free.
June 2009Community - There have been lots of complaints from the local community about noise and anti- social behaviour. Please remember that your neighbours might be old or have young children who could be easily upset or offended by the way you behave. Talking with your neighbours might alleviate problems before they begin and also stop situations escalating out of control. Bikes - As more and more people are using heavy duty D locks and making sure that their bikes are secured properly when left unattended, we have had very few reports of bikes being stolen. If you would like to purchase a very good heavy duty D lock for only £5.00, then please contact Wendy Harvey on ext 5454. Stocks are limited! Personal property - The only reports we have had of personal belongings being stolen are from people who have left their valuables unattended. Rooms - When leaving your room please make sure you place your valuables out of sight and that the windows are shut securely. Thieves are prone to climbing through open windows when they see something worth stealing. Personal safety - Try not to walk home late at night by yourself. If possible always get a taxi. If you do have to walk home alone then stay on well lit roads and if you think somebody might be following you contact the police immediately.
May 2009Bikes - When you leave it lock it and don't forget to use a good heavy duty D lock. Personal property - There are still people leaving their belongings unattended which encourages thieves. Please keep your valuables with you at all times and don't give thieves a chance Community - It doesn't take much to be a good neighbour. Respect the area and the people within your community. Noise, littering and anti-social behaviour can be very upsetting. Please don't let yourself or your University down. Accommodation - When leaving your room close the window, move valuables out of sight and lock the door.
April 2009We are pleased to report that this month we have had very few crimes reported. So please continue to look after your property, don't leave things unattended.
March 2009 Bikes - please make sure that bicycles are secured with a heavy duty chain or D-lock when left unattended even for a short time.
February 2009Bike Thefts - we are still having a large number of bikes being stolen from the University (and the whole city is being targeted) so please make sure your bike is locked securely with a good heavy duty D lock.
January 2009Bike Thefts - we had a number of bike thefts around the Lafrowda area. Laptop Thefts - we are having a lot of Laptop thefts from the main library. Students need to keep their laptops with them at all times and not leave them unattended even for a short period of time.

Cyclists - please remember to have working lights on your bikes and wear reflective clothing as we have had a number of near misses due to poor visability. Walkers - when walking home at night please remember to stay safe and don't walk alone, use well lit pathways and only use legitimate taxis.
